Meet the Team.

At (Here) Yoga, we’re passionate about helping you reach your goals.

Nicky Grimsdale, Lead Teacher

Nicky began his journey of yoga in 2007 practicing Iyengar yoga, which gave him a deep insight into anatomical alignment. Whilst living in India, he completed Vinyasa Yoga teacher training with a focus & passion for pranayama and meditation. Nicky began his teaching career by adjusting at (Here) Yoga, where he developed an appreciation for the unique needs of each student. As his understanding grew, he became more creative and intuitive with purposeful adjustments and flowing sequences.

Now one of Melbourne’s leading teachers and top trainers, Nicky endeavours to share his passion and knowledge to create a nurturing environment for students to connect with their own body and express themselves through mind, body and breath awareness.

Ian Cresswell, Studio Owner & Teacher.

From a young age Ian showed a keen interest in sports and the human body, so naturally he went on to study Human Movement, majoring in Exercise Physiology. Ian uses his knowledge of the human body to ensure every student regardless of their abilities has an amazing experience. His passion for anatomy is obvious and he loves to integrate anatomy and physiology into his sequencing to improve the student experience. He is our go-to anatomy geek for this awesome training, as he will bring the science of yoga to life.

Ian presents yoga in a modern and palatable way while still honouring and respecting the ancient philosophies. Expect a fun and dynamic training with a definite hint of humour!

Sarah Cresswell, Studio Owner & Teacher.

Sarah was drawn to yoga as a way to get fit and find peace. After graduating with an Elementary Education degree, she practiced yoga regularly while running the children’s program on a cruise ship for grounding while floating around the world. Sarah brings her passion for teaching into yoga as a way to tap into the curious awareness and compassionate acceptance within each of us.

Sarah believes the beauty of yoga is the physical and mental challenge that relieves stress and helps you grow into the best version of yourself, and as a teacher you’re able to share that experience with your students.

Sarah and Ian are the owners of (Here) Yoga and are proud of the authenticity and quality of their teachers and the open-minded, beautiful community they’ve helped build in Malvern.

What style of yoga is the training?

(Here) Yoga teaches a Vinyasa-based program focusing on foundational alignment, physical awareness and linking movement to breath. Our training is designed to allow you the space to explore and enhance your experience of yoga. We will dive into the rich history of yoga, plus it’s transition to modern day including traditional poses, Sun Salutations and creative sequencing.

What yoga experience is needed before joining a teacher training?

We request that you have a very minimum of 6 months of a consistent yoga practice before enrolling for teacher training. This ensures trainees have a basic foundation and understanding of yoga before learning how to teach. If you have been practicing for less time, but are interested in the training to deepen your own practice, we can discuss whether this training is right for you. Please be aware that the training includes many hours of physical practice for the duration of the course.

What if I don’t want to be a teacher?

No worries! Our 200-hour training is great for anyone who wants to dive deeper into the study of yoga with it’s rich history and to elevate their own practice. It’s also perfect for students who want to experience the awesome community and transformational aspects of the process.

Can I cancel once I have paid?

Unfortunately no. (Here) Yoga does not offer refunds for trainings. A portion of your payment can be used as a credit for another training within two years of your original training date, or we can transfer your credit to another student.

Cancellation fees may apply.

Fees are determined by the following schedule:

  • Cancel 60 – 90 days before training start date, 75% of your payment may be transferred to another person; thereby forfeiting 25%
  • Cancel 15 – 59 days before training start date, 40% of your payment may be transferred to another person; thereby forfeiting 60%
  • Cancel 14 days or less before training start date, you will forfeit your entire payment.

Please note that your $500 deposit is non-refundable regardless of cancellation period.

What are the training requirements?

In order to receive your 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certificate, you must be paid in full and:

  • Attend all teacher training sessions and classes
  • Complete all assigned homework, journaling, reading and final exams
  • Participate in all practice teaching practicum hours (teaching, observing and adjusting)

If you miss any hours of training, they can be reconciled as follows:

  • Practice hours can be reconciled by practicing an additional class of the same duration
  • Lecture hours can be reconciled through a private lesson with the appropriate teacher at a rate of $100 per hour (subject to the availability of the teacher) for a selected amount of time that will suit the hours required and material to be covered.

Please note that if you miss more than 20 hours of training, you will not meet the required hours to be a registered 200 hour yoga teacher within the parameters of the Yoga Alliance standards and therefore will have to register for another training in the future to achieve the certification.

What is included?

Included in the price of your training is 180 contact hours for your training, including practice and training in the Malvern studio with Nicky, Ian & Sarah. We’ve also covered all your costs for 8 days and 7 nights in Bali with luxury accommodation & delicious healthy food in an incredible location. We will provide a teacher training manual and a list of required texts, which you will need to purchase. During weekend & Labour Day training sessions, we will have short breaks for meals which you can bring or purchase from local cafes.

Will I be qualified to teach yoga after the training?

Yes! After successfully completing all requirements of the program, including contact hours, homework and the final exam, you will receive your certificate as a 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher. Most new teachers usually begin teaching in small studios and gyms, or to friends and family or karma charity classes. During the training we will discuss the business side of teaching yoga, including how to apply for jobs, build your brand online, and use social media as a platform for marketing and connection.

Is the training Yoga Alliance certified?

Our training is accredited by Yoga Alliance® Worldwide Registry of Teachers and Schools. Yoga Alliance is an organisation created in 1999 to create standards for yoga teachers and yoga teacher trainings in the United States and is recognised internationally. Some yoga studios in Australia and abroad require teachers to register with Yoga Alliance but is not a legal requirement for teaching yoga. Currently, there are no legal certification requirements to be a yoga teacher.
